Books at a Steal
Books at a Steal, Downtown Sanford’s original bookstore, is a treasure trove of used books donated by various readers from near and far. Founded in 2010, we are located at the corner of Carthage and Steele Streets in the Historic Lee Furniture Building, on the mezzanine level looking over Shops of Steele Street.
Our amazing volunteer staff is dedicated to helping you “Feed Your Need to Read” at prices that are a steal. Not only do we maintain an exceptional database of our books, but we also house the largest Nonprofit selection of used books in Central NC. Through funding, Books at a Steal helps support Partnership for Children and Families as they promote early childhood literacy in Lee County.
Voted “Best Bookstore in Lee County” for two straight years, we offer a special $1 Day Sale every second Saturday, $1 books between 5:00-7:00 pm every third Thursday, as well as offering
discounts for teachers. You will find our store comfortable and cozy, inviting and open, with unique window views of our beautiful downtown. Our child-friendly space includes a one-of-a-
kind Chris Dalton mural, displaying various favorite children’s literary characters, from The Cat in the Hat to The Pout-Pout Fish. Not only is our neighboring Temple Theater within walking distance, we are also in close proximity to various downtown boutiques, antique stores, coffee shops, restaurants, and breweries. Each week on matinee days at the Temple, we enjoy regular out-of-town visitors stopping to shop before the afternoon show.
So, whenever planning your next visit to Sanford’s vibrant downtown, our friendly volunteers encourage you to bring your donations to share, then browse for your next good read at the wonderful Books at a Steal!
